Why they’re free
Because the usual ways of making an app pay for itself are the same things that make apps unpleasant. Ads need your attention. Subscriptions need you locked in. Free-with-analytics needs your data. None of that makes an app better at the job you downloaded it for.
These are small tools built to solve problems worth solving, by one person with the time to do it properly. They cost nothing to run because there is nothing to run — no servers, no accounts, and no database anywhere with your name in it.
That’s the whole catch. There isn’t one.
